Easter Sunday - April 16, 2006

The hog was slaughtered for the feast. We had jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese and bacon as an appetizer along with many other items. For the main course, there were pork country ribs, spiral cut ham as well as grilled pork loin. We did not lose any weight on Easter.

Dan and Tammy had 18 family and friends at their home to celebrate this day. The weather was perfect and the crowd was full of spirit. Dan did have a #3 washtub on the back deck that had refreshments iced down. The grandsons were doing their part to entertain the group.

Ashland Retiree's Club - April 27, 2006

A Friday bus trip on the free Harris County Pct 3 bus to Armand Bayou to see nature in its wetlands. This 2,500-acre preserve southeast of the city center. Bordered by NASA’s Johnson Space Center, petrochemical plants, and housing subdivisions, this oasis of wetlands, woodland, and grassland serves as an invaluable educational resource for Houstonians as well as a refuge for a variety of wildlife.

Lunch will be seafood at the Flying Dutchman in Kemah and the back on the bus to visit the Haak Vinyards and Winery in Sante Fe. A chance to enjoy some good Texas wine.

Cypresswood 50 Plus Club - April 22, 2006

With an age-old cry, "All Aboard!", your conductor sets in motion the "Iron Horse" that compels you on. Suddenly, it's 1896 again as you ride the steel rails of the Texas State Railroad. You'll turn back the clock with each clickety-clack that you hear from the railroad's track. The Palestine Depot reflects the architecture of the early 20th century.

A Saturday bus trip up to Rusk and a train ride to Palestine on the old steam train is a fun trip for the local group in our subdivision.
