Cypresswood 50 Plus Club - Friday, June 1, 2007

Donna and I will take the Harris County Precinct 4 bus from the subdivision clubhouse to see this classic. The free bus with driver and fuel helps to subsidize the cost of entertainment for the seniors in our county. The Playhouse 1960 is close but it nice to leave the driving to someone else.

Fiddler on the Roof is set during the period of Czarist Russia in the impoverished peasant town of Anatevka which is largely populated by hard-working Jewish families. One family is that of Tevye, the dairyman, a pious man with five daughters. As the story unfolds, the traditions of Tevye's ancestors begin to unravel as his three older daughters assert their independence and when government troops brutally force Tevye and his fellow villagers from their homes. Inspired by the works of Sholom Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof takes us on a journey of love, laughter, devotion, defiance and changing traditions. The musical includes such memorable songs as If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker, Matchmaker and L'Chaim (To Life).

Spamalot – Thursday, May 24, 2007

One of our shows in the season tickets includes this Tony award winning musical. Monty Python’s SPAMALOT is the outrageous new musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the film classic Monty Python and The Holy Grail. Directed by Tony Award-winner Mike Nichols, SPAMALOT tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the Holy Grail. flying cows, killer rabbits, taunting Frenchman and SHOW-STOPPING musical numbers are just a few of the reasons audiences everywhere are eating up SPAMALOT.

Donna and I plan to stay in a hotel Thursday night after dinner on the town and the show.

Friday, May 18, 2007 - Pleasant Hill Winery

Ashland Retirees Club did a day trip on the free bus to Pleasant Hill Winery in Brenham. Our winetasting at the winery was at 3:30 pm and we relaxed on the deck to sip wine and have cheese and snacks.

Dinner was at the Southern Flyer at the Brenham Airport. This is a 50's style dinner complete with jutebox and waitress in poodle skirts. I ate chicken fried steak with stewed okra and tomatos and a side of corn casserole with great yeast rolls. An appitizer of fried onion rings started the meal. The Harris County Precinct 3 bus met us at the Memorial City parking lot for this trip.

Silver Eagles - Monday, May 14, 2007

I booked the Hooters Office Party Certificate that covers FREE chicken wings, fries and soft drinks for one hour. It is at our normal 1:15 PM this Monday, May 14 at:

Hooters of Spring
120 Fm 1960 W
Houston, TX 77090
(281) 893-WING

The Manager was very good about letting us have it at 1:15 as they normally start a Office Party at 2 PM. Ed I know you said you would order your beer and salad from the menu but I think most will go for the free food.

It is time for chicken wings and beer again so our Silver Eagles will meet for lunch at Hooter's on FM 1960 at I-45 to enjoy fine food in pleasant surroundings.

Silver Eagles Poem

The second Monday of each month is the day we retired guys have wings and beer at Hooters. We go at 1:15 pm to avoid the lunch hour rush. Many are from our subdivision but we also are joined by area friends.

OTC 07 - Monday, April 30, 2007

After getting my eye pressure tested for glycouma at Houston Eye Associates, I visited the exhibits at the Offshore Technology Conference at Reliant Center. The exhibits filled the large hall and then some were outside in air-conditioned tents. The dollars spent in putting on this show will amaze most people. They come from all over the world to see the latest in what is happening in our oil industry to find the black gold.
