Sweet Charity – Thursday, July 5, 2007

Sweet Charity’s tuneful score (by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields) features such hits as "Hey, Big Spender," "There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This" and “If My Friends Could See Me Now." And the show features a hilarious book by none other than Neil Simon. Based on the Fellini film Nights of Cabiria, the musical tells the story of Charity Hope Valentine, a taxi dancer with a heart of gold but a will of tin foil. Though she dreams of meeting the right man and settling down, she keeps lavishing her affections on losers. Her luck starts to change when she meets a suave Italian movie star, but things really start to look rosy when she runs into a nebbishy but sweet guy in a night-school elevator. Could this finally be her Prince (more or less) Charming?

This is our last tickets on this season of TUT’s shows. Donna and I are looking forward to the next season that will start this fall.

Natural A/C in Alaska – June 26 to July 4, 2007

Our first vacation this year was the Northeast so this trip will be the far Northwest, Alaska. We have a nonstop on Continental to Anchorage (about 8 hrs) where we spend our first night and then fly to Fairbanks where we pick up a rental car and drive to Denali National Park. We have an 8-hour tour bus ride in the park to Fish Creek that affords outstanding views of Mt. McKinley, the Alaska Range and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Wednesday night will be spent at the Denali Lakeview Inn in Healy.

After a driving tour of the area it is back to Fairbanks and gold mines, paddleboat trips and other tourist fun. Friday evening, we fly to Anchorage and then drive to Seward on the Kenai Peninsula on Saturday. On Sunday, we have a 9.5-hour Northwestern Fjord Tour booked in the Kenai Fjords National Park. This boat ride visits magnificent Northwestern Fjord, home to three amazing tidewater glaciers and numerous alpine glaciers.

We return to Anchorage on Monday evening and catch our nonstop flight back home on Tuesday night. This gets us home at 8 am to celebrate the 4th of July.

Alexandria, Louisiana – June 15 to 17, 2007

Donna and I drive over to visit my brother and his wife and celebrate their grandson’s high school graduation. DC is the oldest child of Mary Dawn and Carl. There are relatives from many directions that will attend the big party. David and Linda will be back from Branson, MO just in time for all the fun.

Silver Eagles Poem

The second Monday of each month is the day we retired guys have wings and beer at Hooters. We go at 1:15 pm to avoid the lunch hour rush. Many are from our subdivision but we also are joined by area friends.
