Doctor Visit - Wednesday, May 31, 2006

Wednesday was a good day for Donna and me as we drove down to the Medical Center in Houston to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Prevention Center. We had a joint appointment with Sharon R. Hymes, MD who is an Associate Professor of Dermatology. Donna only had one small spot to get the liquid nitrogen treatment but I had a large spot to burn and a biopsy that was a sutured wound.

Lunch was beef fajitas at a local Mexican restaurant and then home to grocery shop.

Loss of a friend - Carol Lowman - May 20, 2006

Today, Donna and I drive to Victoria for the funeral of a friend who passed away Wednesday evening in the hospital. She is missed by both family and friends. We have known George and Carol Lowman for about 40 years in both Corpus Christi and Houston. They moved into a home just a short distance from our home in Spring. We enjoyed going to many activities over the years.

When we return this evening, we are going to Peg and Ed Holten's home for our Supper Club group that has been enjoying dinner and friendship at each others home for about 30 years. Today will bring a range of emotion.

Good Eats Week – May 7 to 13, 2006

Sunday was fried fish and boiled shrimp at Mary Dawn’s in Alexandria and back to Houston for Hooters Chicken Wings on Monday with the Silver Eagles. On Tuesday, Donna and I went with Dick and Denese to Gringo’s where I enjoyed beef fajitas and grilled shrimp with fresh pico de gaya and guacamole salad . Wednesday, I got up early and fixed a package of bacon and fried 3 jumbo eggs and fixed toast with orange marmalade to start the day. We met Dan after he got off work Wednesday evening and had dinner at the Redfish Grill. A dozen oysters on the half shell to start and grilled halibut on cedar wood topped with lump crab meat and four jumbo grilled shrimp filled the bill. The desert was deep dish red raspberry pie with Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream.

Thursday was a fun treat as Donna and I stopped at Brown Sugar Bar-BQ in Greenspoint for lunch. That was a combo platter with pork ribs and sliced beef brisket with potato salad and beans and then worked our way down to Surfside Beach below Freeport where we drove along the Gulf of Mexico and looked at beach homes. We crossed the toll bridge to Galveston Island and got to see the beach home that Donna's high school group rents each October for a fun weekend. Dinner was a good Greek dinner at the Mediterranean Grill on the Strand in Galveston. I had a Greek Salad with huge chunks of feta cheese and a dish of Musakah with baklava for desert.

This is Friday, so Donna and I went on a Pct 4 bus trip with the Cypresswood 50 Plus Club to Brenham where we toured the Antique Rose Emporium and the Monastery of St. Clair to see miniature horses. Lunch was at the Must be Heaven Sandwich Shoppe where I ate a half Muffuletta sandwich and had two slices of pie. One slice was bourbon chocolate pecan pie and the other slice was peach praline pie ala mode with Blue Bell peaches and homemade vanilla ice cream.

Saturday, I have plans to cook a roast with small red new potatoes and meals are at home today. This was not a bad week for meals. This was not a typical week of meals.

Homecoming - Saturday, May 6, 2006

We will drive over to central Louisiana on Thursday to visit family. The extended family goes to Liberty Chapel Cemetery every year on the first Saturday before the first Sunday in May. That makes it late April or very early May. This old family cemetery is where most of my relatives are buried and it will be my final resting place.

We will have dinner at Mary Dawn and Carl's on Saturday evening. It may be shrimp and not crawfish this year (perhaps both).
Anyway, Donna and I will be there and Dan and Tammy will be driving over with the boys as well as Vera (Tammy's Mom) and Jack and Sooz (Tammy's Dad and Stepmom) will attend also as we plan to have Ted Nugent baptized at Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday morning. Deborah will be there and Candance (Deb's daughter) is flying in from NYC.

People gather from all over the country that have family buried at Liberty Chapel Cemetery. It is a beautiful peaceful spot that dates from 1849. Click on the link to the web site in the first paragraph.
